S’mores days of summer! Lame right? Sounded better in my head anyways, where I have been recently dreaming of s’mores galore.
With the summer season ending in a few weeks, it’s hard not to get panicky over what to eat before it turns into fall. Did I eat enough corn? Could we roast marshmallows one night? How can I freeze berries and vegetables? Can I squeeze in more beach time? Should we go for a quick weekend getaway this weekend?
Or is that just me that panics about those things? If we lived in Southern California I wouldn’t even panic about the summer ending as much. It’s ok every once in a while, but when it rains for weeks on end than its depressing!
One dessert I love to eat each summer is S’mores. S’mores consists of gooey marshmallows, chocolate and graham crackers all together in one bite. I think a bit of that appeal is nostalgia of summers as a kid roasting marshmallows over the fire with friends.
Nowadays you can enjoy s’mores from cupcakes, cookies, cakes, pavlovas, ice cream, candies. You name it they’ve tried it. I even recently had a s’mores pie in Palm Springs at Norma’s. Curtis and I devoured that in record time.
S’mores is a North American phenomenon, with a National S’mores day on August 10. The origin seems to be from Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts making these delicious treats while camping. It’s an easy assembly when doing them traditionally.
You roast the marshmallows over a fire then place them on a graham cracker. Top that with chocolate and another cracker while marshmallow is still hot. That melts the chocolate slightly and you then eat that delightful gooey mess!
Below are 10 s’more recipes that break out of the traditional mold with tons of flavor! Try one out; I dare you to eat just one!
