Weekend Recap

This past weekend, Curtis and I took a trip to Seattle. Our main reason was to attend a rally course at DirtFish Rally School in Snoqualmie on Sunday. Our first stop was Ballard, once a blue-collar, maritime-centric enclave bustling with fishers, millworkers, and boatbuilders. While the historic neighborhood maintains its working waterfront, bars, shops, and restaurants, have made it into one of the city’s hippest hot spots for visitors and locals alike. There are quite a few cocktail bars in this area and fun shops, along with trendy cafes and dessert places like Hot Cakes.

We stopped for brunch at Percy’s and Co., a cool, bright space dishing up tasty brunch dishes. I had the bacon and scallion quiche with a pineapple mimosa and Curtis has the breakfast BLT with a side of crispy potatoes. Boy those were addicting!

We got back in the car and drove around Queen Anne, admiring the cute houses and taking in the views of the city and ocean.

One popular spot is Kerry Park, donated by the Kerry’s so everyone can enjoy the cityscape view of Seattle. (Ignore my hair; I was rocking the frizzy hair half way through the day)

We made our way to our hotel, the Hotel Monaco, being greeted with their happy hour, showcasing wines from Washington State. We made it just in time since the Seafair Parade was starting in 30 minutes outside our hotel! Our friends were in town catching the Blue Jays and Mariners game, so we met up for a bite to eat. We ended up at Cyclops, the hip eatery at the Seattle location of Ace Hotel.

Sunday, we ate breakfast downstairs at Sazerac, great customer service and tasty food. Then off to the main reason we came down, DirtFish! It’s in Snoqualmie, about an hour outside Seattle past Mercer Island. Set at the foothills of the Cascade Mountains, it’s located on what used to be the Snoqualmie Falls Lumber Company and still has remnants of the old factory and other buildings on site to remind you what was once there. It’s a large property of 315 acres with a custom-designed facility.

What a blast! Curtis and I had an amazing experience; it was such an adrenaline rush! Our instructors were superb, patient and gave helpful advice on technique. We started off on the skid pad and then slalom ending with driving around a mini-track called the Boneyard. At the end of the day, our instructors took us for a hot lap in the Wedge!
