Whatβs a great way to start off the new year? One way is taking a dance class. Itβs a fun way to meet new people, learn something new and if you are with someone, a bonding experience. If you are in Vancouver, I would suggest Baza Dance Studio.
Curtis and I are in Baza Danceβs On2 salsa group class that started last week. All of our classmates are all in the same boat. Thatβs looking for something fun to do in the week. A few are new in the city and/or country, so itβs a perfect way to meet new friends. And did I say fun?
The teachers are fantastic! Wayne, Kristal and Melissa start us off with a short intro of salsa and then divide the class into male and female sides. We learn the traditional way of which foot to start on, the men typically lead. I just want to say that Iβm 100% sure we were all nervous. Its nerve-wracking learning a new skill. You think oh geez I hope no-one is watching me. But hey you just have to remind yourself that you are in a dance lesson group. Everyone is there to learn just like yourself.
So after learning the basics in our groups, we were then paired up and went into dancing with a partner. We would rotate after a minute and onto the next partner. It was so fun! I am so sure that I stepped on a few toes and someone stepped on mine, but no-one cared.
By the time the class was over (a quick hour!), you were just getting into the groove. Iβm psyched to go for another lesson and become more comfortable with salsa.
If you are in Vancouver, look up Baza Dance for their next start date. Whatβs also great about them is that students registered in Salsa 1, 2 or 3Β can attend any other Salsa 1, 2, or 3 classes during the week.Β Itβs a great way to practice before your next session. They also offer besides salsa, tango, cha cha, bachata, hip hop, kizomba, reggae ton, latin fusion and more!
But if you arenβt in Vancouver, do try to find a dance class nearby. Itβs so fun, itβs a great way to get in some exercise, you might meet a new friend and become more comfortable on the dance floor. Lessons at Baza are $80 for 5 weeks. Their On2 salsa classes run twice a week in Vancouver, with the second class being a repeat of the first. When you register for a 5 week session, you can attend 1 day or both.
Iβm so excited for Curtis and I to get warmed up for our wedding. Heβs a little shy when it comes to dancing in front of people so this has been a great way to boost his confidence. I want us both to enjoy our wedding and dance the night away!
Anyone else taking a dance class this year? It was on my resolution list last year but we didnβt get around to it. So glad we are!
A couple of quick tips on going to a new dance class:
That’s awesome, Leslie! My husband and I actually met through salsa dancing (he converted me from an on1 to an on2 dancer) and we know Wayne and Kristal through the scene. They are the sweetest and so, so talented.
You and Curtis are going to rock your first dance!
fun! i’d love to do more lessons one day.
hope so!
Absolutely sounds fun and a nice experience, I haven’t tried dance lesson and I wanted if I have a chance, I will tell this to my sister on her coming wedding.
yes! it’s a lot of fun!
Your salsa lesson sounded so fun; I love dancing!! I wish I was in the area, I’d love to go to Baza, specifically, for a lesson or two!
Maybe you have one in your area. I know there are a few dance studios in Vancouver, mostly all offering similar packages.
Looks like a lot of fun! I wish I would have thought of this before my wedding lol
Maybe for an anniversary?
