With the weather breaking temperature records without including rain, the city is becoming hot. Don’t despair; there are countless ways to cool off in Vancouver within close distance.
These are all inexpensive ways to cool off, and best enjoyed with friends or family. I also find it can be a great excuse to explore new neighbourhoods or try something new!
1. Hit Up the Beaches
Vancouver has many beaches that are easily accessible near the city. From English Bay, Second Beach, Third Beach, Jericho, Locarno, Spanish Banks, Kitsilano Beach and Wreck Beach there are plenty to choose from. I personally frequent Jericho, Locarno or Spanish Banks since they are very near to my home. Kits Beach is also down the street from me, but it’s usually too overcrowded for my liking.
2. Cool Off in the Canyons
Try taking a quick trip up to either Lynn Canyon or Capilano Canyon. Both off amazing trails and pathways to walk on with shade from the forest. A bonus is that you are able to bring your dogs along to explore the beautiful scenery. Capilano Canyon also has a secret oasis known as Granny’s Cove. A popular spot along the river with cliffs to jump off of but be careful!
3. Walk to the Island
Habitat Island in False Creek is accessible by a stone pathway. This little oasis has amazing views of the city skyline and is a great spot for a picnic.
4. Visit the Outdoor Pools
Vancouver has many outdoor pools to visit, a few with amazing views. I like to visit Kitsilano Pool myself because it’s a salt water pool, but there is Second Beach pool, New Brighton pool and the Aquatic Centre at Hillcrest Park.
5. Indulge in Ice Cream
As of late there are a few ice cream shops that are popular in Vancouver. We enjoy Rain or Shine and Earnest Ice Cream, both popular spots. We also love that they both sell pints of their delicious flavours so you can bring them home for those late night cravings!
There are also the Italian gelaterias La Casa Gelato, Gelateria Dolce Amore and the popular Bella Gelateria in the city.Β We frequent La Casa Gelato to try any of their 200+ flavours.
6. Lace Up Your Skates and Hit the Rink
That’s right, a few of the ice rinks in Vancouver are still open and what a great way to cool off and get a bit of added exercise while having fun.
How do you cool off in the summer?
