I was invited this year to attend Vancouver Fashion Week. It’s my first time attending and I wanted to go at least twice last week. I brought my mom and brother Wednesday and Saturday night, Curtis and my brother’s girlfriend also joined us.
Vancouver Fashion Week is at the Chinese Cultural Centre just off of Pender. It’s a smaller event than say NYFW or LFW, but it’s still a fun time with plenty of great people watching. And I am not exaggerating on the people watching!
First off, I am a huge fan of fashion and style, but when it comes to smaller labels and designers, I am not that well versed. It’s something I would like to expand on, I love finding new designers and trends.
They bring in international, Canadian, American and local designers in each year. Not being familiar with so many of the designers, I randomly just chose nights to attend. For 28 seasons, Vancouver Fashion Week has produced a runway that celebrates multiculturalism and emerging talent.
Wednesday was a quieter night, we were able to find seats and stayed for a couple of hours. My mom joined and she was as always dressed to the nines. I came after work and just had on jeans with a silk kimono jacket and blouse.
I would say Wednesday was more a conceptual evening, the designers were all trying new trends and very little were pieces someone would buy. (In my opinion anyways…)

Saturday was the big night, the house was packed! We couldn’t find seats and I ended up floating around the main level to upstairs to watch the shows. I just love that during each break, how packed the runway gets with the guests, models and designers. There were some amazing collections, with some designers embracing cultures and sizes.

I loved this ladies look (Sue Randhawa), she is the owner of a local optical boutique and she was stylish! Everyone wanted a picture with her.
When Vancouver Fashion Week returns in the Fall, I will hopefully be invited to attend! It was a ton of fun, and a nice evening out. Both evenings we attended, we went for a later dinner afterwards in the area. Try Bao Bei or Meet in Gastown!
There is an after party every night hosted by VFW, but I didn’t attend either. I creeped online and saw that people were having a fun time! Maybe next year???
Have you attended a fashion week in your home city? Or are you the lucky few that can do the major circuit? I’d love to go to NYFW, Milan and Paris!
Also, I’m going to be a big sister and shamelessly plug my brother on my blog!Β Head over to my brother’s photography site, he made a seriesΒ from VancouverΒ Fashion WeekΒ this year! He’s located in Vancouver and is always on the hunt for some exciting projects to shoot. Check him out.
Ugh fashion week! I would die to go to one of these! Love the pictures and looks like you had so much fun!
Looks and sounds like so much fun! Vancouver is such an amazing city filled with creative people! Love!
I would love to go to VFW, maybe in the Fall. I’ve never been to any of the Fashion Weeks but New York, Milan and London would be amazing for sure! Glad you had a great time here at VFW! π
