Our Thanksgiving in Canada is this upcoming Monday. It’s more than a month before American Thanksgiving and is by no means the same size of a holiday. In America, Thanksgiving is the biggest holiday of the year and also the biggest travel day of the year. People spend weeks prepping their Thanksgiving Day menu, watching cooking shows and worrying if they have enough side choices.
In Canada it is still very much in that same spirit of giving thanks and the harvest and thinking about the people who helped settled our country but it doesnβt have that same weight as our neighbours in the south. While the Canadian holiday officially falls on the Monday, dinners can take place at any time over the long weekend.
But saying all of that, we still care about our food. I’ve shared a few dishes I’ve found on the web from sides, dessert and the main protein. I’m not a huge fan of turkey even though I do love leftover sandwiches. Instead I prefer beef or lamb instead of the poultry, paired with great vegetables and delicious dessert. My mom each year prepares a great feast for us, she changes it up each time and I really appreciate that.
Also last year’s post about turkey leftovers is here.
Spicy Green Beans with Crushed Macadamia Nuts (Life is but a dish)
Roasted Carrots with olives, goat cheese, salad topper and harissa-preserved lemon dressing
(At the Immigrant’s Table)
A creative cranberry sauce that is also Paleo
Pear-ginger cranberry sauce (Rubies and Radishes)
Stuffed acorn squash (Create Celebrate Explore)
And a different alternative to turkey, a Coffee rubbed prime rib roast with roasted gorgonzola butter sauce (Half-Baked Harvest)
For dessert is a Maple Cinnamon Cake (Modest Marce)
