Sunscreens 2015
I would hope we all know how important it is to wear sunscreen to protect us against wrinkles, sun spots and truly critical, skin cancer! There are considerable amounts of options to choose from for every skin type and price point. It can be quite overwhelming in that aisle with all those options. So what do we look for?
For starters, there was a recent report on the worst sunscreens to use based on toxicity amount (Neutrogena, Coppertone and Banana Boat are the top worst ones). This report gives each product a rating and the closer you are to 10 the worse it is.
Here are a few important points including money wasters and harmful ingredients in sunscreen to keep in mind when selecting one:
- Spray Sunscreens – can be inhaled and don’t cover all parts of the skin
- SPF values over 50+ – SPF tops out between 30-50
- Oxybenzone – Disrupts the hormone system
- Retinyl Palmitate – can potentially trigger cancer
