Rowan’s Fourth Month

Rowan's Four Month Update

We made it to four months! It was a really TOUGH month, not sugarcoating it, really, really freakin hard. Leap four, sleep regression and the busy calendar didn’t make it an easy one. I enjoy looking back to her first-month update and comparing them.

But Rowan is just so cute, we forgive her for all the growing pains for us haha. She loves to roll around, scream talk, do this thing where it sounds like she’s choking but not really, laugh, and grabs everything around her including her feet. Those generally end up in her mouth haha.Baby Sleeping on playmat

She has become really curious on what we are eating or doing with our mouths, which I take as a good sign when she begins to eat solids. Still thinking we will wait till the recommended six month period to introduce them. I’m solely breastfeeding and that is what they recommend. Except she has had one tooth start to appear this past week, probably play it by ear.

Rowan also has mastered the grumpy face when she is determined to get her way! It’s really cute so to us it’s hilarious but she must be so frustrated to see us laughing instead of tending to her demands. And fake crying is a thing now, along with shoving her fists down her mouth and thumb sucking! UGH.

She is also SUPER active – she has rolled from tummy to back and from back to tummy (although she rolls much more often from back to tummy) and she is starting to scrunch her knees under her belly and trying to worm her way toward us. She also loves to bear weight and stand when we hold onto her arms and stomp around. She’s really strong!

Rowan is also a water baby! Bath time is something she really enjoys, splish splashes around and we took her to the pool for the first time and she had a blast! And a quick visit to the beach, toes were dipped in the sand with much enjoyment!

And this baby is a chatterbox! Always blabbing on, giggling at her own jokes, and likes to boogie to music! It’s really fun to see her personality come to life this past month, can’t wait to see what the next one brings us.

Our current schedule with Rowan right now is:
6 AM: Wake up for a feed, a diaper change, she then goes back down for another short sleep
8 AM: Wake up and feed

10:30 AM: Nap
11:30 AM-7 PM: We try to have a nap and feed every two hours and get outside for a walk
8 PM: Bath time every 2 days
8:30 PM: Feed and storytime
9 PM: Go down for an 8-hour sleep, lights are turned off, white noise machine goes on

Mommy Update

This past month was HARD. I’m not going to sugarcoat it, but that last leap was rough in our household. Patience was next to none for a few days, she went through a sleep regression to on top of it, and Curtis and I barely spoke to each other some days. Lack of sleep was the cause, also she just constantly whined and really took a toll on my mental health if I was alone all day with her.

Still breastfeeding, pumping a bottle or two each day to have on hand and it’s going better. I feel just way better with our feeds, they’ve become more efficient so I’m not feeling like a dairy cow anymore.

Also eating healthy, more plant-based with protein from fish and occasional meat if that makes sense. Just overall fewer carbs, more veg, and protein. I read the Postnatal Depletion book and made a note of what was missing in my diet. Also not going to lie, I pick up the already cut up watermelon and veg at the supermarket just because it’s easier for myself to grab on the go.

This last week she blessed us with more sleep and because of that, I’m a little cheerier in the mornings! Hoping this next month continues, mama needs to catch up on sleep!
