Rowan’s First Birthday

Rowan turned one! We spent the day taking photos and eating smash cake! Then on the weekend, my parents came over and we had another little celebration and opened up gifts. It was a lovely weekend for Rowan and us, our home was filled with balloons and we enjoyed a cake from Soirette. BUT how in the world is my baby already 1????? Still in major denial over here! People sure aren’t lying when they say that the first year happens in a blink, but we are so happy to have our sweet Rowan in our lives.

My sister baked Rowan two little smash cakes and she got to enjoy both, she’s just so timid and eats them very daintily, I’m not sure whose child she is?

I didn’t go crazy with a theme, I just went with a balloon kit I bought at Indigo on sale, grabbed a helium tank from Michael’s, bought some custom banners on Etsy, and picked up a couple of bits from the dollar store. There’s kinda a theme, I guess colour wise and maybe a boho whimsical look haha, is that a theme? I just knew I wanted it to look somewhat special and for her to look back at photos and see we made an effort this year. AND with what a weird, crappy year we’ve had with everything going on, it was nice to blow up balloons, wear something nice and celebrate Rowan.

Overall I’m happy we spent time outside at the park, she was so happy to open gifts, play with the ribbons and empty boxes, and now is obsessed with her little kitchen and musical instruments! A success in my books, I think next year will be so fun when she’s 2! Maybe we can organize a park hang out with her little friends.

P.S. I decided to ask Alyssa to take our photos to remember her turning one year old and eating her first cake just because I didn’t want to stress on her birthday or at her little party about taking photos. I wanted to enjoy the day, the moments, and just worry about her and not photos. And I have to say we lucked out with the weather on her birthday because her little party with my parents on the weekend was a gloomy day!
