We brunched at Farmer’s Apprentice with my parents on Saturday afternoon.

This place has been on my list to tryΒ before it opened. They are located on West 6th Avenue between Fir Street and Granville StreetΒ with Chef David Gunawan and his partner Dara Young running it. David was formerly the Executive Chef at WestΒ and recentlyΒ started and owned WildebeestΒ for six months.Β His newest venture is a cozy, kitschy space, with a lot of character underneath a cool, industrial apartment building. The tablesΒ are topped with aΒ wood herringbone pattern,Β so right away I was in love! We were sat inside, thoughΒ they do have a cute little patio that seems to be opened all year round. In total, the restaurant seats 30-35 people by my count.

Their menu changes daily and seasonally, using products locally sourced and in season.

I ordered the Omelette with ricotta and swiss chard and sourdough toast and salad. It was delicious and the omelette perfectly cooked, not being dry but amazingly moist and flavorful.

Omelette, looks like nothing but wow was it filled with flavour!

Curtis and my mom ordered the smoked chicken with biscuits, escarole, tomatoes, yogurt, herbs and poached eggs. The chicken was sandwiched between two soft, buttery biscuits served with salad and poached eggs. They were both pleased and wiped their plates clean.

My dad order the natural angus beef bavette with red rose potatoes, beet greens, horseradish sauce and fried eggs. I didn’t catch a photo of it before he dived in, but he had no complaints.

The table shared a heirloom tomato flatbread, with eggplant, peppers, cauliflower and a soft boiled egg. The flatbread was soft inside and had a nice chew and crispy crust. And of course the heirloom tomatoes were delicious!

Our server was great and attentive, refilling our water, drink ordersΒ and making sure our needs were met throughout the meal. The prices were comparable to any other restaurant in the city for brunch and the dishes were made with freshΒ products that you can taste. I cannot wait to come back for dinner, Curtis and I both agreed this needs to be sooner than later.
