Last Friday, I had the day off of work and ran some errands. I did the usual holiday Bosa stock-up run and survived, left starving and decided to try out a new place for lunch. Curtis and I went to Pazzo Chow in Chinatown. This little Italian café is situated kitty corner from the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Chinese Garden and the soccer fields. It is a charming, cute modest space, that reminds me of those little cafes in Europe ran by little old men serving delicious food. It is owned by Maya Sciarretta and the dishes are influenced by her Italian grandmother.
They post their daily specials on their Instagram account, it is a must follow just to see the food each day!
The space is small, but functional; they have a little retro communal table with small, rotating barstools to sit on. It is a chance to eat and get intimate with other patrons or the staff. They have a small grocery section, where you can purchase Italian goods like dried pasta and nice olive oils.
Pazzo Chow did not disappoint in the delicious department, we had a really great satisfying lunch. Each day are new specials, and when they run out you are out of luck. That Friday, we just missed the butternut squash lasagna, so I ordered the Ceci (chickpea) and pasta soup and Curtis got the Panzanella salad with focaccia, tomatoes, arugula, capers, sundried olives and anchovies. YUM! It took every inch of willpower not to order the Nutella focaccia as well. I was craving something sweet after my lunch, so I went ahead and got a Panettone ice cream. It was amazing, creamy, not too sweet, had all the great tastes of a pannettone with the dried fruit. I could have eaten a tub of it!
My Ceci and pasta soup, it was so flavourful and filling.
Curtis’s Panzanella salad, he really enjoyed it.
My panettone ice cream, in a cone of course!
We also shared this cold pressed coffee, was a nice treat. Notch is made locally in Vancouver.
Overall, Curtis and I really enjoyed our lunch and plan on returning soon. All items are under $10, they have variety to choose from each day along with drinks and ice cream. I really want to go on their weekly Friday Spaghetti and Meatballs night!
