Palm Springs Guide – Where to Stay

Palm Springs has accommodations for every budget. Starting with high-end resorts, boutique hotels, motels, inns, and mid-century rentals there is plenty to choose from. If you are visiting alone or with another person, go the hotel route. But if you are visiting with a group, go and rent a house. Your able to relax and host BBQs, possibly stay in houses that Frank Sinatra and other celebrities owned, how can you pass that up? I have a few that I love and recommend from personal stays to word of mouth.

Resorts

Riviera Resort and Spa in Palm Springs
A premiere destination with 24 acres of pristine resort grounds, a friendly pool, glam decor and great restaurants await are at this resort. The Riviera is located in walking distance to the Downtown Palm Springs area, offering restaurants, bars, golfing and shopping. The Starlite Lounge is on the property offering cocktails and Vegas ambiance.

JW Marriott Resort & Spa
The resort is on 450 acres of landscaped grounds and lagoons, with swimming pools, lakes, verdant fairways and manicured lawns. There are shops, restaurants, spas, real estate to name a few other amenities the Marriott has to offer.

Boutiques

The Saguaro
A colourful 245-room property, with two restaurants and a pool equipped with a bar. It is part of the Joie de Vivre’s empire, and was previously a Holiday Inn. They have transformed it into this fun, bright, lively hotel where you can relax by the pool, play bocce after and take a bike round around the area. It is also pretty affordable with packages and deals throughout the year. I recommend seeing the Judy Show next door at the Purple Room during your stay.

Alcazar Palm Springs
A collection of 1950s haciendas attached to Cheeky’s and Birba restaurants. Rooms are bright white, overlooking a sparkling pool lined with lemon trees and many rooms have private fireplaces and patios.

Ace Hotel
Formerly a Howard Johnson, this hotel was transformed into a hipster paradise. Ace Hotel has hotels in London, New York, Portland, Panama, Seattle and LA, but my personal favourite is Palm Springs. Such a relaxing, fun hotel with events and great place to meet people. There is a dog park, yoga, a spa, two pools, lots of little places to sit in front a fire around the property, a diner, a retro lounge, spike snow cones poolside and bikes to take out. If you are not a guest, you can pay $25 to use the amenities for the day. Overall, just a cool place to hang out.

Colony Palms Hotel
Located near Downtown Palm Springs in the movie colony neighbourhood with an 80-year-old history, this Spanish Colonial style hotel was recently refurbished and is again a hot spot to stay. There are 56 rooms, all decorated with a Moroccan influence, a poolside restaurant, and a Turkish spa. The prices are fair and they offer deals throughout the year.

The Parker
The hotel celebrities stay at while visiting Palm Springs because it has the essence of being secluded. They camp out in the bungalows in the back, lounging in their private pool. The hotel is designed by Jonathan Adler, has an all-day breakfast restaurant, posh evening restaurant, lobby bar, a famous spa, a lemonade stand, polo field, giant chessboard, hidden seating areas on the property to name a few things. It’s more on the high-end of prices, but a great place to brunch and wander around.
