Let’s talk about Karrot!

karrot app review

I recently did a clean out of old toys and home items we no longer had space for. With the addition of the new baby, we needed to desperately do a quarterly purge of the apartment. I turned to The Karrot App, a new FREE app where you can list your items, find verified buyers and there’s no commissions or fees. Since all users’ phone numbers are verified, you can shop more safely and securely than other marketplaces!

I went online to list all the toys and household stuff we didn’t want anymore, so easy and took only 30 seconds! It’s basically a neighbourhood marketplace, but everything is done through the Karrot app. I appreciate how easy it is to navigate and with all the different children toys and equipment, I was easily able to place them in the right categories. After the dreaded sorting of toys (other parents know how time consuming that is!), I didn’t have to spend too much time figuring out the post, sold my items within days and made an extra $300.

What is Karrot?

Karrot is a FREE hyperlocal marketplace app that allows people to buy and sell second-hand items within their neighbourhoods. How it’s different from other platforms, is that Karrot will verify your location and phone number before you get started, so you can trust that everyone is who they say they are. I was able to see if anyone was selling Gabby Dollhouse toys in our neighbourhood for Rowan, (her latest obsession!) because I prefer being able to go meet someone just a few minutes away instead of driving 40 minutes across town.

If you’re not familiar with the app, here’s some tips on how to get started!

How to Get Started On the Karrot App

  1. Download the App: Karrot is available on both iOS and Android. Simply download the app and create an account.
  2. Set Up Your Profile: Add a profile picture, verify your neighbourhood, and write a brief introduction. A well-rounded profile helps build trust with other users.
  3. Browse or List Items: Start browsing for items you need or take clear, well-lit photos of items you want to sell. Don’t use anything dark or blurry. Add detailed descriptions and set reasonable prices.
  4. Communicate Clearly: Use the app’s chat messaging feature to communicate with buyers and sellers, and also so Karrot can use their sophisticated anti-scam tools to catch issues before they happen! Be clear about your availability and arrange a safe, public exchange meeting spot. Did you know you can use the local police centre to do meetups?
  5. Read & Leave Reviews: before you buy, read reviews of the seller so you understand how they’ve transacted in the Karrot community before. When you buy or sell, leave reviews of those you transacted with to help foster a trusted community!
