Hi everyone,
This is an overdue post, my apologies, but I still wanted to share my experience.
On May 30, a few weeks ago, I attend Hawkers Fest presented by Flook. Admission was free if you downloaded the Flook app. It is a new buy and sell app by Kijiji available now on iOS and Android. It was held at The Rocky Mountaineer on a gorgeous sunny day. I have never visited the venue before, and was pleasantly surprised by the size and look of it. It is a wonderful open space with cool features to remind you of where it is placed beside the train tracks. There is an abundance of windows and natural light filling the space, making it a perfect venue for such an event.
You could say that it was a part food, part nightmarket with booths set up for both. There were also a few food trucks outside to order from and even 33 Acres selling beer! I was attending with a group put together by Sophia Rizos from Zomato, comprising of other fellow food and lifestyle bloggers including Mashed Thoughts, Jessica Yet, Misaki Nishimoto and Just a Morsel. I had a lot of fun meeting them and sampling the goods together.
I started off with a braised veal cheek over polenta by Cork & Fin. The meat was perfectly cooked, so tender and flavourful, with a nice creamy polenta. I then got Sunshine by 33 Acres to sip while continuing on my food quest. Stopping at Whisky Six BBQ for their wild game sliders, Dinner by Bayan and tasting their PB&J frozen lollipop made on an anti-griddle. I sample this amazing iced chai tea from a new local company Prema Chai. I cannot wait for them to be in stores!
I also bought a black and white cookie from The Salty Cookie Co., S’mores from Whipped Baked Goods and two cruffins from Heritage Canadian Bakery for later. These cruffins were delicious, being a mix of a muffin and croissant. Curtis and I enjoyed eating those later in the evening.
Mashed Thoughts shared her flavour tasting of vegan ice cream from Nice Vice Creamery. There was Lemonhead, Chocoholics Anonymous, Tripped out Tropical and Strawberry Friends Forever. All were quite tasty but I was partial to the strawberry one.
I also shopped a bit, buying Orazio’s Olive Oil, a few elixirs from The Thirsty Whale, a leather monster, baby gift, delicious rooibos tea from The Capilano Tea Company, cutest Father’s Day book and magnets from Hot Art Wet City.
I didn’t stay for The Life Aquatic showing or the Steve Z’s band covering The Life Aquatic soundtrack. I’m sure it was quite a show though. Not surprisingly, by the time I was leaving there was a big lineup through the parking lot.
I recommend checking out the next Hawker’s Fest, I hear there is a more restaurant oriented one coming up in the fall. I can’t wait!
