1. The UK’s first chocolate egg was produced in 1873 by Fryβs of Bristol.
2. The Easter Bunny tradition made its way to the US in the 18th century. It is believed to have originated in Europe where it was actually the Easter Hare. Other Easter traditions include wearing Easter bonnets, making Easter baskets and having Easter egg hunts.
3. Jellybeans were first made in America by Boston candy maker William Schrafft, who ran advertisements urging people to send jellybeans to soldiers fighting in the Civil War.
4. The traditional act of painting eggs is called Pysanka.
5. The exchange of eggs for Easter dates back to a springtime custom older than Easter itself in which eggs were given as a symbol of rebirth in many cultures.
6. Americans buy more than 700 million marshmallow peeps during the Easter holiday, which makes Peeps the most popular non-chocolate Easter candy.
7. Half of the states in the United States have banned the practice of dyeing chicks for Easter. However, Florida recently overturned the 45-year-old law of preventing the dyeing of animals.
8. 76% of people eat the ears on chocolate bunnies first.
9. The first story of a rabbit (later named the βEaster Bunnyβ) hiding eggs in a garden was published in 1680.
10. βThe White House Easter Egg Rollβ event has been celebrated by the President of the United States and their families since 1878.
11. 88 percent of adults carry on the Easter tradition of creating Easter baskets for their kids & 90 percent of adults hope for their own treat from the Easter Bunny.
12. The first chocolate eggs were made in Europe in the early 19th century and remain among the most popular treats associated with Easter.
