Here we are, at the end of September! For us Canadians, next weekend is Thanksgiving (holy geez!) and before you know it Christmas will be here. But I plan on enjoying the fall season, taking in some outdoor activities (weather permitted of course!), enjoying fall dishes, apple cider, wearing my cozy sweaters and this is weird, but keeping my windows open during the day. Pretty soon it will be so cold out, this won’t be a possibility. Today though, let’s forget about how fast this year has gone and enjoy the links below for today’s Friday Roundup.
I’m kicking off my weekend by going to Crunchtime Cereal Bar Pop Up in Gastown. It will be open Saturday and Sunday to the public. All pop-up proceeds will go to local charity Backpack Buddies, which supplies hungry schoolchildren with food during non-school hours. Learn more about Backpack Buddies and to find out how you can help fill empty bellies. What an amazing cause and one that we forget is still an issue in Canada.
Last night I attended a casual evening previewing fall books for Appetite by Random House. It was nice meeting fellow food bloggers from Food Bloggers Canada, the Appetite staff, browsing the latest books and chatting over wine and cake. There will be Bloom by Estee Lalonde (!!), Butter: A Rich History, French Country Cooking, Flapper Pie and A Blue Prairie Sky, French Chef in America: Julia Child’s Second Act and so much more out this fall. Great gifts for the holidays!
Yesterday at work, we were also treated to a big staff lunch and Earnest Ice Cream! Salted Caramel and Tahitian Vanilla for the win. In a waffle cone of course! And this weekend, I will be working on some fun posts, catching up on posts I had in my calendar and didn’t get to, baking and researching into my trip this Fall in BC.
What are you up to this weekend? Anyone working on their Halloween costumes? Any local Vancouverites going to VIFF?
