Friday Roundup: July 13

Southlands Nursey Vancouver

Khatsahlano Vancouver
Happy Friday and welcome to another Friday Roundup! It’s now officially summer here, the sun is out, it’s warm and Curtis and I have been to the local pool in Kitsilano. It’s actually been a pretty nice week!

On the weekend we had Khatsahlano in our neighbourhood and actually on our street lol. A couple of friends stopped by like Jonathan and we just walked the streets, ate BBQ on our patio and sat and had drinks at the beach down the street. It was a pretty good day!

The rest of the weekend was relaxing, we spent a nice afternoon on Main street shopping and lunching. I picked up some cool vintage bags, grabbed a birthday gift for my sister and some newborn items for Curtis’s friend who just had twins. I may or may not have picked up another crystal.

We had some friends come over for drinks and to play a board game this week and did a major clean of the apartment. Nothing feels better than a spotless home!

I also went and ate my weight in lobster at The Keg Steakhouse for their Lobster Summer! OMG so yummy, it’s on till September 2. I went for the Steak and Half Lobster with a twice baked potato and a side of veg. Yummy! And then Mary and I shared a Billy Milner Pie, cuz if you went to the Keg and didn’t get one, did you even go?

I also went to the Vancouver Art Gallery yesterday morning and previewed their new exhibit and walked around the David Milne one too while it was empty. The Ayumi Goto & Peter Morin: how do you carry the land? exhibit is a dialogue between two artists, presented via their individual and collaborative performances.

Ayumi Goto and Peter Morin’s work begins with their respective positions as a Japanese diasporic woman and a Tahltan First Nation man, reflecting on the ways in which their bodies and experiences are inscribed by colonialism. Grounded in explorations related to the land, Goto and Morin ask how cultural knowledge and history inform the human experience of place and our perceptions of others.

There was also the Kevin Schmidt: We are the Robots. It features recent sculpture and video installations by Kevin Schmidt, a British Columbia–based artist whose multidisciplinary practice draws upon aspects of Conceptual Art and performance art while embodying the do-it-yourself (DIY) sensibilities of an amateur inventor.

Dior also had me at their Dior Backstage event at Sephora on Robson Street. I had my makeup done and love, LOVE their new foundation! Also props, because there’s 40 shades in their new collection and it’s 12 hours, sweatproof and waterproof. And it felt like my skin, I love the feeling. Their Glow Palette is also divine, feels like butter.

The rest of the day, Curtis and I enjoyed a lunch at Joe Forte’s (I had a lobster roll, cuz I’m crazy lol) and we then walked around downtown and afterwards went to Kitsilano pool and went for a dip. It felt like a weekend!

This weekend is my sister’s 30th birthday, so dinner is at my mom’s tonight because she leaves for California tomorrow! Curtis and I also have no other plans besides enjoying the sunshine, going back to the pool and hanging on our patio. I’d love to swing by the beach too and lay in the sun, so we’ll see.

What are your weekend plans? Have you seen my latest Youtube videos? I’m catching up with all my weekly vlogs and some travel vlogs will be up next week!
