With everyone getting away during the winter to warmer temperatures, beaches and tropical drinks. I wanted to share my tips for traveling light on your next vacation. These can apply to that quick weekend getaway or a month long vacation to Europe. (Sigh, Europe, take me back!)
I try to follow these each time I pack, most of the time I do, sometimes I just can’t part with those five sweaters. One rule though, when traveling to a tropical destination, you cannot have too many swimsuits! Really you can’t!
And no matter what, stash a pair of undies and another t-shirt in your carry-on. This is just in case your luggage gets lost and you have something to change into the next day. Nothing sucks more than wearing the same clothes two days in a row especially after a long day traveling. Is it just me or do you smell funny after being in an airport and a plan for so long. Not B.O. but like another odor….
Now I’m going to browse travel destinations and dream of a sunny vacation soon!
We have all been there. Stuffing our suitcase with things we don’t need. Instead, pack wisely and choose versatile pieces that can be mixed, matched, and layered. Say it with me: You only need one pair of jeans, you don’t need 10 pair of shoes and you don’t need five dresses.
Research your hotel. Do they supply hair dryers? Do they provide toiletries? This sort of information can save essential space in your suitcase.
I’ve been there, wanting to look on point during my vacation, duh! But seriously resist. Bring a travel kit of your favourite skin care line, use those toiletry travel cases and use samples of makeup. Also consider if you need that face mask or pack extra nail polishes. Remember that you can pick up some toiletries like sunscreen or body wash at your destination. The hotel may have a little shop or there is a local pharmacy.
Rolling your clothes creates more space, plus it’s another great way to tuck away your accessories like toiletries, chargers and shoes. I also invested in those organizing bags for my underwear, socks and bras. Keeps them all together and easier to find.
Bring a travel pack of your detergent and wash your clothes in the bathtub or sink. This will help reduce the amount of clothing and underwear you’ll bring on your trip.
What are your tips for packing? Anyone have any tried and true habits?

Love the roll your clothes up tip! I always pack so many (a girl needs choices!). Great tips!
we do need choices! you never know what might come up 🙂
I totally agree about the smell. I just can’t even describe what it is, but I don’t like it. Great tips, I always get makeup samples for my travels so much easier.
me too, i hoard them till i go away somewhere.
These are such great tips! It’s amazing what you can do if you just decide to buy toiletries that you need on location and when you make the commitment to washing/wearing clothes more than once!
more room for gifts and shopping!
Great tips! It’s amazing how much room rolling your clothes can save and keep them less wrinkly. I’ve found having a wardrobe with a similar color palette helps you mix and match easily. Happy light traveling 🙂
thanks kaylene! it does make a huge difference.
Thanks for your tips! It’s not easy to travel light, so it’s very useful to me 🙂
