Back to reality today. My extra long Easter weekend is over, I had both Good Friday and Easter Monday off from work. I spent my days with family and friends. Curtis and I also had a staycation in the city. This is a quick Easter Weekend recap in photos. I didn’t have time to edit them too much and used a few I posted on Instagram too. We ate a lot of good food, enjoyed drinks and the nice weather (except Saturday night!).
Thursday I picked up a box of goodies from Faubourg. It was a showcase of a few of their Easter and spring desserts. Seriously good treats! Isn’t that bunny bum cute?!
Friday we had brunch at Tacofino in Gastown with friends. I recommend always getting the chips and three dips (salsa, guac and this amazing black bean one).
Then Saturday we dropped the dog off at his “grandparents” and checked into our hotel.
We walked back over to Gastown since it was close by and finally stopped in at the Birds & the Beets! If you read Bon Appetit, they were recently featured in the Vancouver guide in the last issue.
I really loved the space and their menu. I had a plum soda that was to die for and both of our lunches were delish! Plus you can pick up fresh cut flowers and take home baked goods.
Afterwards we popped in to a couple of shops and then decided to grab a drink for happy hour.
First place was Six Acres, which reminds us of the brown bars in Amsterdam and then we moved onto The Diamond for an early dinner and drinks. They recently changed their menu to Japanese and it was surprisingly good.
After a quick stop back at the hotel to change and rest our feet, we moved onto walking around the West End and Robson. Feeling peckish again we decided to share Gyoza plates at Gyoza King. Then because it’s us and we love dessert, grabbed two donuts and coffees from Breka Cafe and ate those in bed.
Next day was Easter Sunday and we picked the dog up and had a quick nap at home (our mattress was awful at the hotel), laundry (so exciting!) and then headed back to my mom’s for Easter dinner. She made Chilean Sea Bass with roasted vegetables in tahini, salad, Spanish potatoes, spinach puff pastries and a garlic pesto bread. Yum!
With an extra day, Monday I made a couple of recipes for the blog. The muffins I made were a fail, they didn’t rise, so I then decided to make bread pudding with them. That was a win! I also used up the remaining blood oranges in our fridge and created a cocktail. It was such a nice day we grabbed lunch and took Piper to the beach. Caught up on some of our TV shows and ate dinner on the couch. Perfect way to end the weekend.
How was your long weekend? Did you get away? I saw so many people online heading to the local islands or taking off on a tropical vacation.
