One of my all time favourite cocktails is the Pimm’s Cup. I love to drink it all year even though it’s known as a summery drink in the UK. It’s generally Pimm’s No. 1, cucumbers, mint, a soda or ginger beer and sometimes fruit like strawberries or apples. My Apple Cider Pimm’s Cup is a twist on this classic because I am using cider instead of the classic ginger beer or lemony soda.
Pimm’s No. 1, a gin-based drink, was invented in 1823 by James Pimm, who served it at his oyster bar in London. I thank this man for this cocktail!
Curtis and i will make this drink at home at least every couple of weeks, or order it when out. Last year at the Parker in Palm Springs, the bartender there (great place to have a drink! And stay as well for solitude), took 20 minutes to make my Pimm’s Cup and boy that was one of the best I’ve had! Besides mine of course 🙂 But look at all those garnishes! Definitely worth the $16 that day, we sipped this happily outside in their garden.
I like to add cider to my Pimm’s Cup sometimes, gives it a nice crisp taste, perfect for those dreary winter days or hot summer afternoons. Ginger beer is also great, you can add whichever you prefer, but I like cider in this so that is what I went with. This drink is best enjoyed outside on a sunny day. Being officially Spring now, there will be plenty of time to sip my Apple Cider Pimm’s Cup! I know I’ll be enjoying this all summer with friends.
Also try my Act of Union, Thyme of Your Life, Hibiscus Aperol Negroni or my Sweet Lime Ginger Rum cocktail recipes! Stay tuned for more recipes and cocktail tips. I will also be doing a series for garnishes and essentials for any home bar.
I’ve never heard of Pimm’s before, but sounds delicious! I love gin, cucumbers, mint, and cider, so this sounds like a divine cocktail!
then you might like Pimm’s!
I haven’t heard of PImm’s but it sounds super refreshing! I wonder if they have it in the States?
they do! not sure at every liquor store, but i know they do.
When I studied abroad in England I could not get enough Pimm’s and lemonade – so good! But this also sounds great, I would love to try it.
i also really enjoy a Shandy too!
I’ve had the traditional Pimm’s Cup many times and I love it. I so want to try your version now!
thanks liz! hope you enjoy 🙂
Different with cider and cucumbers, a combinations I wouldn’t have thought of.
