There are so many emerging Canadian fashion brands to look out for this year. Canadian-made fashion, beauty and personal-care brands are lighting up the scene! I wanted to spread the good word on 10 Canadian Fashion Brands I think you should know.
I’m proud to draw attention to the names and labels that have their home base in Canada. Bringing much needed attention to our high-end fashion scene and give inspiration to up and coming fashion designers out of school.
Today, I rounded up the top 10 Canadian fashion designers who are on my radar. I love to support local and national brands, showcasing our talent up North. It’s fun to see big brands that are originally from Canada and are international hits, but then it’s equally fun discovering new labels that haven’t quite hit it that big yet.
While everyone in North America are well aware of the heavy-hitters like Joe Fresh and Lululemon, I want to shine a light on the some new and exciting Canadian fashion companies. Because up here in Canada, we have got a lot of unique brands in our national fashion scene.
The brand has been designing womenswear since 2013. The swimwear line is produced in collaboration with emerging artists from around the world and features tropical prints, lace-up designs and unique cuts. You can shop the line in a few retailers across Canada and Europe or online.
POP Shoes combines fashion with innovative design to create a versatile, rechargeable light-up sneaker for both adults and kids. Each style is made with premium materials and LED lights in the sole of the shoe with three light-up settings; fast flash, slow flash and continuous lights. With the option to turn the LED lights on and off, POP Shoes can be worn all day, every day – unlike other brands of light-up sneakers on the market.
It’s a bit of a throwback to when we were kids and everyone had those light up sneakers. Well now, we can have stylish and energy efficient versions! Yay!
Beautifully designed, and meticulously thought through, the new PKG Dri collection bags are some of the best on the market, and it’s only a matter of time until the world discovers PKG. With Herschel Supply being the dominant force in Canadian backpacks and accessories I think this is the year that Herschel takes a back seat and contenders like PKG will start to be the backpack of choice for Canada’s cool kids.
This year was a big year for the Toronto-based lingerie and loungewear line, Mary Young. The brand’s clean lines and feminine fit caught the attention of Vogue, Refinery 29, Flare Magazine and many more.
Canadian-born Tanya Heath invented one of our favourite fashion innovations of all time: multi-height shoes with interchangeable heels. With Tanya Heath Paris, you can mix-and-match your favourite shoes and heels with a simple click of a button which means you can go from the work-appropriate kitten heels to sky-high stilettos in an instant. Stop by this fall to see her new line of vegan shoes with the same, awesome, mix-and-match possibilities.
Started by brothers Luca Daniel and Mario Christian Lavorato and friend, Heng Tang, Daniel Christian Tang is a line of 3D-printed luxury jewellery. Using new technology and their experience in architecture, the founders created a line of gorgeous pieces inspired by the works of some greats like Canadian Frank Gehry. The line, made up of gold and silver pieces, is ultimately a tasteful combination of tech, fashion and architecture. They recently won the Best Emerging Designer at Toronto Fashion Week in March 2016.

Zvelle founder Elle Ayoub Zadeh moved to Canada in 2007 to pursue a career in international finance. She went on to create a line of luxury shoes that would make international headlines when Sophie Gregoire Trudeau was spotted in them on national visit to Japan. Zvelle takes an interesting approach to selling its shoes by only selling direct-to-consumer.

The luxury outerwear designer started her line after a chance meeting with Karl Lagerfeld. Sophie Gregoire Trudeau has been seen sporting her stylish coats on a number of occasions.
Her Central Saint Martin’s-trained approach to leather jackets is fresh and exciting. She reworks tried-and-true silhouettes with colourful and bright materials. Her modern take on a vintage standby sure makes her stand out in the Canadian fashion industry.
You know what’s embarassing? As a Canadian, I did not recognize any of these! I’m happy you did though, Canadian Designers need more exposure!
